    Overall good laptop,

To the contrary, it seems well made. No keys have popped off. It is fast and efficient, light and compact. I have two complaints though, one is the constant fingerprint marks and smudges, that won’t come off the high gloss body (someone has suggested using baby wipes, which I have yet to try). But more importantly the battery life is no where near what the “up to 5.3 hour” test rating. On average I get about 2.3 to 3 hours of battery life per charge, and I have only been using it for web browsing and microsoft word/powerpoint. I will be talking to a company rep from Toshiba in the near future, but I don’t expect a replacement because the description of battery life uses the key words of “up to.” lol, yeah probably in hibernation mode.

We purchsed this same computer from ShopNBC to start my t-shirt design business. It came with a 1 year warrenty. The price for the extended warrenty was out of this world. When we got it home, within 30 days we had to take it to a company that worked with Toshiba to have it repaired. After that, we had to send it back to Toshiba 2 times before it was “fixed”. Three months after the warrenty expired the motherboard blew. I called ShopNBC to complain about the computer and although they (ShopNBC) were not responsible, they(ShopNBC) gave me a credit towards any future products I purchased from them (ShopNBC). Way to go ShopNBC!! Forget about talking to a rep at Toshiba. They are somewhere in India and not only do they not speak clear english, THEY ARE VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY RUDE. I asked to have my warrenty extended by a couple of months seeing as they had it more than we did in the beginning. It was easier pulling my teeth than getting any type of sastisfaction from Toshiba. My advice is to buy a Dell or an Acer,ANYTHNG OTHER THAN A TOSHIBA. Now we are stuck with a $800 computer that will cost $750 to repair. Heck, my verizon netbook works better. TOSHIBA SUCKS BIG TIME. To all small business starters and/or owners, STAY AWAY FROM TOSHIBA.

So unhappy about this machine. I ordered it to take the place of a lap top that stopped working in the middle of a book contract.Within a day it had popped off the h key, all of it’s own. It feels cheaply made and it is not an overly fast computer, even with the i3 processor. It’s going back tomorrow, and I’ve ordered an Asus.

I wanted to replace my 2005 laptop with a 4GB, Core i3 machine and went looking for the best bang for the buck in this category. I did not want thin and light – this machine would rarely leave the house and I would just get a desktop except that, these days, it’s nice to be able to move the PC from desk to couch to bed to kitchen for use as a TV, as a phone, as a photo album, as toddler entertainment…

The HP was on sale and provided the absolute max amount of screen for the dollar, and that was the deciding factor for me. Unlike a few years ago, most current laptops now have tremendous similarity in design and subcontractor components, so they all have decent keyboard, memory, hard drive, webcam, etc. But the screen on the HP was enormous compared to others at this price point and the casing had a nice texture.

I am very, very happy with this machine. If you are looking for desktop replacement, go big and you will not be disappointed. The only minor flaw so far is the miniature up/down arrows mentioned by another reviewer, though you canalways use the numeric keypad as backup arrows. I actually like the reprogramming of the useless F1-F12 keys for volume and other functions (a la Mac Book Pro) and consider this a plus.

Again, great value, great feel, freaking giant screen. Love it.

I purchased this laptop about a month ago. For the price, it’s great: huge screen, 320GB, 4GB of RAM, full keyboard including numpad, Win7, etc. I’ve had no serious problems with it.

    A few minor issues:

Like many other laptops, this one comes with a bunch of HP software that you probably don’t need.

The Up+Down directional keys are half-sized to save space on the keyboard.

The F1-F12 keys perform alternate controls like screen brightness, volume, play/pause, etc. But the alternate controls are set as the default functions of the F keys: you need to press the ‘fn’ key to use F1, F2, etc. This was a problem when I went to play a game that used the F keys. To change this, press F10 when booting to access the BIOS. In the “System Configuration” menu, you will see an option for “Action Keys Mode.” Disable it to restore your F1-F12 keys to the normal settings.

I’ve had this HP G72-250US laptop for a few weeks and am very happy with it. I have had an HP zd8000 for about 5 yrs. and it’s still working OK but this new one is faster, better screen, larger storage, etc. – Actually, it kicks butt over the zd8000.

I waited ’til they got rid of Vista to buy and like the Windows 7 so far.

I bought it at Staples and it was $599. Plus an instant $50 discount and an HP $50 rebate so I end up spending $499 (not bad if you consider my zd8000 was about $1,800+).

I wanted a 17″ screen with 16:9 resolution and 4GB memory at the lowest price I could find. I considered a similar Toshiba offered as a special at the same price by Costco but decided against it because I don’t like the feel of Toshiba keyboards and their machines in general seem to have a lower quality feel and look about them. Dell also was offering a similar, discontinued model for a hundred dollars more. I’ve owned several Dells and have nothing against them but I wanted to try a different brand and this was $100 less. I immediatley liked the feel of the keyboard as opposed to the Toshiba. I also like the look of the silver case, much classier than either the Dell or the Toshiba. I’ve only owned the machine a short while and so cannot speak to it’s long term reliability but so far it is fast and easy to use with no problems. It comes with a 320GB hard drive. I wish it had 500GB as the Toshiba did. But, truth is, 320 is perfectly adequate for most peoples needs. I also wish it had a backlit keyboard as the Toshiba did and so did my previous Dell laptop. I miss that. But for a 17″ screen with 16:9 resolution (great for videos, etc. an amazing difference from the 13:7 resolution found in most 17″ and nearly all 15″ computers) and 4GB memory, this can’t be beat.
