I’m an owner of several HP laptops during the past several years, and all have been good performers. I just acquired the dv4-2173 and it is fast, has a really great keyboard, and is feature rich (I’m still in the learning phase). Note that it came with Win 7 Home Premium which now has the language package (earlier I could only get the language pack in Win 7 Ultimate). Although it is nominally a 14-inch display, it is very similar to the dv6 – you probably won’t notice the difference…. weight is a bit on the heavy side, but the DVD is removable for travel if that fits your needs.

I’m not very happy with this purchase. It has trouble waking up from ‘sleeping’. It goes into a cycle of trying to turn on, then off–over and over again, and you can only get it out by holding the power key down for a minute and restarting everything. Not convenient. I’ve been on the phone with HP for the last 4 days trying to fix it–still not fixed. Additionally–the microphone is not functioning, even with HP tech trying to get it turned on. The speakers are terrible quality, as well.
I’ve had instances of the CD drive starting to make crazy amounts of noise-clicking and clacking away when there is a data cd in the drive that i’m not accessing at all.
Also, the keyboard has taken to randomly inserting the cursor in paragraphs above where I’m actually typing. I will probably return this computer.

I couldn’t wait for my HP to arrive after ordering. This will be my first HP after 3yrs use of my DELL. I’ve heard a lot of good things for HP’s and i was ready to move on from the constant crash, the distress of lost files and overheating of my last PC. The first thing that got me when i opened my box was the sleek black body with cute silver design finish…definitely a big move up from my previous dull silver and white PC. The lighted HP logo on the cover is also a cute last touch as well. In addition to my PC, i also got the notebook Sleeve (HP 14 Inch Notebook Sleeve in Retail Packaging – Espresso), the wireless mouse (HP Wireless Laser Mini Mouse) and the mini speakers (HP USB Mini Speakers).
Getting my PC was one thing, getting to use Windows 7 was another thing…and can i tell you.!.! it is awesome! This OS is what was needed for years now. I cannot wait to really put it to good use when i go off to school next fall.
The top things i love of my PC are:
*sleek black design
*easily carried around
*the lighter option: lighten the weight of this notebook PC by removing the optical drive
*clear HD images on monitor, Bright-view Wide-screen Display
*fast start up and running programs and obtaining files
*Amazing OS (windows 7!! (= ), ideal for multi-tasking and running of numerous programs
But of course there are two sides to everything. I should have paid more attention to the technical details such as only 3USB ports available and they have slacken some already(my PC is 7mnths old). The SD slot is also a bit funny. I have a difficult time of pushing cards in trying to get them back out again. My PC speakers are really sucky when it comes to watching movies so i always have to have my headphones on. The mini speakers i got as well are, sad to say, at the same level of my PC speakers…so that is a bit frustrating. I rarely use the speakers, it called MINI for a reason i guess! and i found that the wires of the speakers are always in the way. Due to the lightness of the speakers, they were always toppling over. My web-cam and microphone also has a tendency of freaking out when im using them on MSN messenger…i haven’t worked out the cause of this as yet. The notebook sleeve stores the pc comfortably and is very soft so holding on to it for long period of time is no problem at all. I made a mistake in thinking my charger can be carried in this as well tho…this was me confusing a sleeve for a case. My mouse is just wonderful! No complaints there…:)
So all and all, i still love my PC. It looks good, works smoothly and gets the job done one way or the next…i am very satisfied!

The HP Pavilion DV4-2173nrs the best laptop iveever had, theres a bunch of people who say HP has a lot of defects but dont listen to them! Theyre either lying or they treat their computers like junk and thats why they need a new one. Its Fast, Accurate, HD, has a cool design, and a little HP logo in the back that lights up when its on. It has only one con I can think of, the battery lfe is pretty short if your a heavy duty downloader like me. But if you need more battery life just buy a High Capacity HP battery. Hope this helped 🙂

As soon as I took this computer out of the box and booted it up it showed problems. The first time I tried to run updates it kept crashing and blue screening. I immediately got a bad battery warning from the new battery condition software that comes with it. I was given a message to warranty the battery as it was defective.
I was finally able to update everything and load other software after about the 10th time trying to run it.
After that it continuously got worst. As the month went on the laptop would keep cycling shut down, restart , error message (Blue Screen error), shut down, restart, anyway you get the picture.
I don’t know maybe it’s just a software problem, but took it back and got a refund. I’ve had lots of HP products in the past and they’ve always been great. To perform like this right out of the box makes me question the Quality of there products these days.
