A compaq Evo N610c notebook came into my possession in 2008, when it was 5 or 6 years old, and I already had another computer as my daily driver. I spent a couple bucks to get the W200 wireless module and a ram upgrade, gave it an old hard disk I had lying around, and if I didn’t already have a newer laptop, I would just use the Evo. It has unbelievable battery life, a brilliant screen capable of 1400 by 1050 resolution, very useful shortcut keys and buttons, and countless other features. I truly believe it was designed better than my newer laptop… The hinge isn’t too stiff or too loose, it has very easy access to ram, HDD, and the multibay, etc. I would recommend this laptop to anyone, and with XP pro, 1.25g of ram, and integrated wireless, it is just as capable in today’s business world as it was in 2002.

Your personal opinion with no stats to back your negative rating. It is possible that you’ve had a bad experience with this laptop while I’ve had a great one. COnsistently lasted through a couple of years and still going strong. While HW appears to be the problem in most cases, it is actually technology that updates and leaves the HW behind. Knowing the correct solutions and patches and updates cures this 99% of the time. The laptop is fine for the pricing on it!

This laptop was given to me earlier this year (2009) with a broken hard drive. I had an old hard drive laying around, so I put it in and installed xp pro on it. The laptop runs great! For an older system, this certainly holds its own. I ended up upgrading the ram from 512mb to 1gig, and even put Windows 7 on it. I am a graduate student, and take to to school for notes in class and use it for research at home. I definitely know this machine from top to bottom, and recommend it for anyone who is not interested in gaming or high-performance application. I only wish it had a graphics card that supports all the features of Windows 7 (the Aero and directX9). If you use it for Windows 7, you can manually install the windows XP Mobile Radeon 7500 drivers.

Anyways, this laptop is top notch for an older computer.

I got this laptop used and it works great. The only problem was that the orginal battery did not work and the seller quickly corrected the problem. The laptop does not come with much on it so I am trying to install programs. I am considering updating the laptop because it is a few years old.

Product overheated, took 20 minutes or more (I timed it) to come up to a working screen, locked up from day one. Seller unresponsive to my phone calls(every other day)and e-mails for 10 days. He finally responded online stating that there had been a death in his family. He suggested sending a replacement. Since I hadn’t heard from him, I informed him that I had purchased a new laptop the day before. He agreed to accept the original product as a return. I shipped it back the next day. I’m waiting for my refund on my account!
